These terms are for a shop whose magazine PlainSight hosts and sells as a digital issue at plainsightai.app/m/your-shop/. They say what you are paid, how and when. They sit beside PlainSight's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and Stripe's own terms for the account you open with Stripe.
PlainSight publishes your issue at its one address and sells it to readers who sign in to a PlainSight account; a reader who buys it can read it there, signed in, on any device. When you ask PlainSight to host it you can say whether it is free or paid, the price you would like, and up to six pages besides the cover to show free; PlainSight looks the issue over and sets its price and preview with you, and can change them later. A paid issue's cover is always shown free.
For each copy sold, you receive 70% of the price, less Stripe's processing fee on that sale. PlainSight keeps 30% of the price. The fee is Stripe's own figure for that payment (for a US card on Stripe's standard pricing it is 2.9% + 30¢; cards from abroad or in another currency cost more), and it comes out of your 70%, never out of the reader's price.
| A copy sold at | $7.99 |
| Stripe's fee (US card, 2.9% + 30¢) | −$0.53 |
| PlainSight's 30% | −$2.40 |
| Your share | $5.06 |
You are paid through a Stripe account you open yourself from your payouts page, signed in with the email address PlainSight has for your shop. Stripe asks for your identity, bank and tax details and keeps them; PlainSight does not see them. Your share is sent to your Stripe account as each copy sells, and Stripe pays your Stripe balance to your bank monthly, on the 1st. When a payout reaches your bank depends on Stripe and your bank, and Stripe may hold or delay a payout while it checks an account, as its own terms allow.
Copies that sell before your Stripe account is ready are recorded, and your share of them is held for you. It is sent to your Stripe account as soon as Stripe confirms the account can receive it, and paid to your bank on the next 1st. Held money earns no interest. If you never set up payouts, PlainSight keeps holding your share and will write to you about it.
Readers' purchases of a digital issue are final, except where the law says otherwise or where PlainSight refunds a copy (a reader charged twice, say, or an issue that would not open). When a copy is refunded, your share of the refunded amount comes back: it is taken back from your Stripe account, or struck off what is held for you. A payment a reader's bank reverses (a dispute) is treated the same way. Stripe does not return its processing fee on a refund; PlainSight bears that fee on refunded copies.
Your payouts page shows, month by month, the copies sold, what they took, Stripe's fees, PlainSight's 30%, your share, and what is held and what has been sent. Your Stripe dashboard shows each transfer and payout. Readers' names and contact details are not shared with you: a reader buys from PlainSight.
You confirm that you have the right to publish everything in your issue — its words, photos, artwork, logos and clips — and that it is lawful where it is sold. Issues about tobacco are for adults 21 and over, and PlainSight shows them behind an age check. PlainSight may take an issue offline if it receives a credible complaint about it, and will tell you.
You are responsible for any taxes on what you are paid. Stripe may ask for tax details and may send you tax forms where the law requires.
PlainSight may change these terms by writing to you and posting a new version here; a change applies to copies sold after it takes effect, and your payouts page asks you to agree to the new version. Either of us may end the hosting of your issue at any time by writing to the other. Shares already earned are still paid, by these terms, after it ends.
